Swapping clips on the timeline shortcut?

I can do this in FCP, I can’t seem to figure out how to do this in PPro or if it’s possible, even after reading the docs and researching it a bit. wondering if it’s possible in Premiere Pro:

I have 2 clips, clip A and B, one after the other in the timeline. I want to drag A to the end of B, and have B move before A, I want to ‘swap’ them. With a simple keystroke in FCP I can do that.

As it is now I have need to drag the clips to another track to move them out of the way and then back down to the original track which is a lot of steps.

Thanks much for any advice.

Select clip B and drag it to the beginning of clip A while holding shift+Alt.

Alex: please do not use short urls. One has no idea where one is directed to. I certainly will not use/click on them.

Keith, how do you do this move in FCP? I’m trying to do that now but cant figure it out.

I believe you start to drag the clip, then hold down the option key and the cursor turns into a curved arrow then place it before the clip you want to swap. I don’t use FCP that much so it might be control rather than option, give it a try.

I tried using shift-alt and drag, but this didn’t work for me. Instead, I found I can interchange two clips’ positions by holding cmd and dragging.

I’m using a mac and the keyboard shortcuts are set to default.

swapping clips for PPro, Mac: hold cmd + alt, PC: hold ctrl + alt after dragging the clip and it will swap with the edit arrangement you drag it to.
