SW on a laptop
The main reason I would get SW is to be able to edit on my powerbook. I can barely get a single clip with audio to playback. The audio plays back OK but, the video stutters and the CTI doesn’t move at all. I’ve tried running the media off of firewire 800 drives and the results are the same. Has anyone out there ‘Set yourself free’ on a laptop and if so, what kind of performance are you getting?

I’ve got the same performance problems (Powerbook G4, 1GHz, 1G RAM). Try reducing size of monitor windows to increase performance… I believe the SW software is designed for the G5.

I scaled down the monitor windows but, its still jerky. It says its designed for the G5 but, they market it on their website on a powerbook. They need to add the disclaimer ‘this doesn’t really work on a powerbook’.

It worked fairly well on my 12″ G4 1.33GHz with 1.25 GB ram. I had a Lacie Porche drive. I think it was with draft quality media though.

hmm… thats odd.
i have a first generation 1GHZ titanium with 1GB of ram, running media100sw media off the internal drive and even a title or two, using 10.4.2 tiger. ran fine till the demo expired several weeks ago, now i cannot download it anymore. what quality were you running your clips at? majority of my stuff was at 150kb … you may have been using a higher quality. try reducing it and see if it still doesnt work. if you still have problems, use a program like cocktail to try and clean up your os, it helped for me.

I was running PAL @ 360 – which probably explains the issue. Never heard of Cocktail – I’ll try & find it & have a go…

I am editing on 2 1.67Ghz Powerbooks. Both with 1gig of ram and using the internal drive for media. The media is aquired on either our M100i or M100HD suites at a max of 40kbpf using the M100i codec. Although the image stutters a little, generally it works just fine. I was even able to get 3 streams running with opacity.
We are currently editing a series of 15 episodes for delivery mid this month. The timescale has been very tight so I’ve been editing on my 2hr journey by train on occasion. It’s amazing how I can take the project with me anywhere. This is freedom! I’m going to have to write up a case story for this as it has been such an amazing experience (dispite the many bugs currently in the M100HD/SW software).

Finally, I took the time to run some tests with lower res clips. At 10kb the footage looks fine on the laptop and I get really good performance even using the system drive.
