For some reason SVP 12 has suddenly refused to start, giving me an error reporting window saying Vegas Pro has stopped working, and providing the following error details:

    Problem Description
    Application Name: Vegas Pro
    Application Version: Version 12.0 (Build 770) 64-bit
    Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
    Fault Module: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 12.0\vegas120.exe
    Fault Address: 0x000000013FA91FA9
    Fault Offset: 0x0000000000731FA9

    Fault Process Details
    Process Path: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 12.0\vegas120.exe
    Process Version: Version 12.0 (Build 770) 64-bit
    Process Description: Vegas Pro

The fault address varies, though the fault offset remains the same.

This error message appears even before the splash screen has a chance to appear. Vegas 9 still works perfectly, both 32 and 64 bit.

I have tried Restoring a couple of times, and have uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas several times, but all to no avail. The error keeps appearing. I sent the error report to Sony, but have not had any feedback yet.

I have a couple of projects on the go, both in SVP 12, so can’t revert to SVP 9. Has anyone any idea what I can do now?

When you uninstalled VP12, did you delete the Vegas Pro 12 folder (it should have its own folder, separate from your other install)? If not, I would do another uninstall, delete that folder (after making sure you don’t have any saved projects or footage that might be in that folder– back that stuff up to a different directory), then reinstall again.

I would normally tell you to also delete any registry entries from HKY_LocalComputer_Software but it’ll probably screw up your other version of Vegas.

Thanks for that suggestion, Dave. I did as you suggested, including deleting the Registry entries, but still end up with the same darned error.

I installed it onto my wife’s laptop, and it works fine there (though very slowly!), so I am wondering if something has gone screwy in my registry, although VP 12 seems to be the only program misbehaving. I will try a repair install of Win 7 next and see if that helps.
