Whenever I change the computer’s focus to another application, no matter how briefly, changing back to SVMS incurs a lag time while the software does something. On my Windows 7 machine I get the little whirly circle.

    1) Is there any way to minimize this time?

    2) What is SVMS doing in that period?

Options – Preferences – General – Close media files when not the active application.
When this check box is selected, files can be edited in external editors (audio, image, etc.) while they are contained in events on the Vegas timeline.

Holy MOLY, that is going to make SUCH a huge difference in my workflow. (And I don’t know how one would even search for such a topic in the Help, assuming it’s even there.)

Thanks Mike, you are a sterling resource here for Vegas users!!!

    Grazie mille!

    Glad to help Eric.
I have no idea if it’s in the help file either as most of my Vegas knowledge comes from great forums like this one.

While it’s TECHNICALLY there, the implications of having this box checked are not, AFAICT, addressed at all.

That being, on some systems, it’s going to be very frackin’ inconvenient and introduce a slow-down whenever the user changes applications away from Vegas. “Whenever” meaning every damn time.

Kinda huge. On my system, fairly quick, with this project (~240 clips), it’s like ten seconds.
