    Hello,

I’m trying to do a 5.1 Surround Sound mix and wondering how to setup studio speakers with the new Mac Pro (late 2013 – the ashtray/trashcan model).

Can I buy a simple surround sound system and use the mini-speaker port, do I use the HDMI port, thunderbolt, or do I get a cheap interface like this that uses USB?

I’ve tried searching but so much information is old and outdated and the search terms are so generic that its hard to get specific advice. I know there must be a good simple setup for this powerful machine that doesn’t require a thousand+ dollar breakout interface box, right?

Any recommendations for interface solutions (cables or boxes) and speaker systems appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Oscar

What software are you using for your mix?

I’m a filmmaker just starting to mix projects in Surround Sound after years of working in Stereo. Mostly mixing smaller projects in Final Cut Pro X using it’s Surround Sound options and then with longer form projects I send to Logic X for mixing.
