I thought that I might start easing myself in the direction of surround sound since my new motherboard as well as Vegas are supposed to support it. I know that I don’t know much about this so I started by putting a commercial DVD that definitely is encoded in 5.1 Surround into my PCs DVD player only to find that I was only hearing stereo.

Eventually I had a message from Power DVD that I should upgrade my software. Is this supposed to imply that in addition to a sound card & speakers you also have to upgrade your software? I can’t actually ever see myself watching a movie on my PC regardless if it was commercially produced. Do I need new software or is there free upgrades for other programs like Windows Media Player?

    Thanks in advance
