supports Sketch and Toon shadows?
Posted by Ronny Traufeller on August 26, 2009 at 6:21 pmHey Guys,
I was wondering why my Oject isnt casting any shadows when i turn on the scetch and toon effect. I created a light with hard sheadow, and when i turn off the S&T effect the shadow is perfectly visible. if its not working, i have to use the normal shadow combined with an S&T rendered Object.
any experience?
thanks Ronny

August 27, 2009 at 5:00 amIf you got to render settings>effects>sketch and toon>shading, are the illumination and shadow boxes checked?

August 27, 2009 at 8:34 amjes they are, shading was originally “backround”, after i turned it to shading, neither the shadow or the shading was visible. I have to say that i am using sketch style tags, which maybe compete to the render settings, but i also changed the tag to “shading”.
I copied the Tags from a file which has perfect sketch presets. The wierd thing is that nothing happens after turnung shading on ….

August 27, 2009 at 3:44 pmAh, you must have had compositing background turned on in the comp tag. Impossible to say what your new problem is without seeing the scene file. Can you post a stripped down version?

August 27, 2009 at 6:12 pmjes, a stripped version is attached.
This one gots shadow, but not the kind of shadow what i was lookin for,

August 27, 2009 at 7:51 pmI see what you’re after. There’s no dedicated Sketch line for shadows, but you can enable soft shadows in your light and then check the “Outline Shadow” box in the light’s shadow tab. Adjust the shadow map resolution to change the outline thickness.

October 27, 2014 at 10:48 amIn case someone else is looking for a solution:
I had the same problem, and as far as I found out C4D does not deal with shadows or lights when working with a sketch and toon shader, since probably a sketch and toon object has a bit of restrictions on lights and shadows, the only way I found to make a light affect a sketch and toon object is to use the “illumination” section in the “opacity” or in the “color” attributes inside the material options of the sketch and toon shader, and assigning in the “Include lights” tab all the lights you want to influence the material (as you see in this pic: 8145_screenshot.jpg.zip )
