  • Support for the selected file format has expired for this application

Posted by Andrea Cerulli on May 26, 2008 at 8:40 am

Hi everyone… I have been using Sony Vegas MovieStudio Platinum 8.0 with Dvd Architect Pro since a couple of months (thank God for your forum by the way). and find the suite excellent.
However 5 days ago I tried rendering a file and the message was “Support for the selected file format has expired for this application”.
I tried reinstalling vegas and architect (which worked great until 5 days ago) but nothing. I also tried reinstalling the .net framework but themesage is stille the same. Anybody can help? Thx a lot

Your post is somewhat confusing as Vegas MovieStudio Platinum comes with DVD authoring software so you shouldn’t need anything else.
Which version of DVD Architect Pro are you using?
    Is it a demo version?

I am using Dvd Architect PRO 4.5

I managed to produce the file deselecting the option regarding the looping of the file … I thus created and AVI file that I imported on architect… but it wasn’t the way I worked previously… the point is that I used the sony suite awhile ago and can’t remember the way I did it…but it wasn’t this way.

In addition Vegas doesn’t seem to see I have the Architecy installed…

“I am using Dvd Architect PRO 4.5”

Since it comes bundled with Vegas Pro 8, it’s not a standalone package (i.e. you can purchase it by itself) so I assume you have Pro 8 as well.
If so, why not install it?

I probably must have made mistakes reinstalling vegas Movie Studio platinum 8.0 because when I select Burn DVD it tells me he can’t find DVD arhitect.

At this point I decided to export the file in avi, install Architect and import the video file in it.
It seems to have worked but I am 99% sure it is not the way I managed to make my dvd some time ago during my first use of Vegas.

The procedure was a lot more smoother…what am I doing wrong?

You still haven’t answered how or why you have DVD Architect Pro on your machine.
As I said, it comes bundled with Vegas Pro 8 so, if you have one, you must have the other.
If you do have Vegas Pro 8, install that and then remove Movie Studio and that should clear up your problems.

My guess is that the installation of DVD Architect messed up the DVD authoring part of Movie Studio which is why you’re getting that message.

To get back to square one, you’ll have to uninstall everything and then reinstall only Movie Studio.
Be forewarned that this may require you to do some registry editing and, if you’ve never done it before, I don’t recommend it without some knowledge.

thx Mike… you are being very helpful and patient. Let me start from square one as you say. I started reinstalling Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8.0 after a brief use some time ago. At the time I remember installing the sw, getting the files frommy video camera… editing, doing the menu and burning the dvd.
Then I remember also installing BOris effects but did not use it.

After burning the dvd I removed the application from my pc.

This we I decided to make a new dvd so I connected my external HD where I had Vegas… installed it and grabbed the new files from my videocamera, edited the video and after having finished the editing pressed Make Movie, selected Burn DVD and the software informed me that it did not find Architect.

So I downloaded the trial architect version and am trying with it in the way I previously explained.

Andrea I’m not sure what to tell you.
I’m certain it has something to do with your install, uninstall, reinstall but, since I use the full version of Vegas and not Movie Studio, I can’t be positive.
I’d try uninstalling Movie Studio and DVD Archihtect, rebooting the computer, reinstalling Movie Studio and rebooting again.
Then see if it works properly.
If it still doesn’t work, then an email to Sony Tech Support is your best bet.

Andrea, did you register the software when it was installed? If you don’t register it will deactivate after a set time period, I seem to recall 30 days but I’m not sure. If you didn’t register and that time had expired perhaps that is what happened.
