Anybody know how to render a quicktime with superwhite from AFX CS3? I need quicktime with 110 IRE !
Any combination I tried results in white clipping at 100 IRE. It doesnt seems to be a codec problem cause I tried some (Apple FCP Uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2, AJA v210, None, …)

    MY computer:
    Quad Core with OS 10.4.11
    After effects CS 3
Final Cut Pro with KONA 3

I am not sure what you mean by superwhite but i know there is a gamma shift problem with quicktime when you are rendering out videos… check out Andrew Kramer’s post here:

it deals with something that might be able to help…

    sorry if it doesnt though…

    Thanks,
By superwhite I mean white above 100 IRE.

I digitized a clip in HDTV Uncompressed 10 bit via a Kona 3 card (Apple Uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 codec). This clip have superwhite (white above 100 IRE).
    Export quicktime movie current settings.
    Then importing it in AE.
After effects project setting 8 bits (or I even tried 16 bits) with no color management.
I render it in 1920×1080 (Codec Apple Uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2).
Then going back to FCP, every color and levels (black and luma) is exactly the same except there is nothing above 100 IRE.
I tried reimporting the original clip directly into FCP and the superwhite is still there (means After effects is clipping “superwhite”).

Hiya, not 100% sure i can help, but i remember watching a tutorial a little while ago about using 16bit or 32bit colour. it pushes whites further then 255 and blacks below 0, not sure if it’d work on a solid mind, but maybe worth looking into.

    hope this helps.

The only way that I can conceive of it working is in 32bpc with color management enabled using the HDTV (Rec. 709) working profile and rendering to a non-RGB codec. I’m still not sure if it works, but it’s the only way I would expect it to… although there may be other color management methods that would?
