I’ve made a name plate graphic for a documentary in After Effects and I’m wondering if I need to export it a special way to make the black background it has in the composition transparent.

I have it exported as a QT animation and as an avi already and I couldn’t get the editing program to let me superimpose it over the footage. So I figure maybe there’s something I’m missing from After Effects, which I know far less about.

Did you try to bring footage from your editing program into AE?

Make new comp for footage and drop name plate on top.

    Cheers,

try keying the black out. just make sure you dont key out the important stuff. try keylight and fiddle around with it.
