I saw a skateboard ad on TV where the skateboarder was grinding down a rail but it was live action. It’s super imposed but I was wondering if I would use composition? I figured I would need a solid wall background. I’ve been testing this technique but can’t figure it out completely. I put the same footage on different layers, then cropped it, but there’s a color difference I noticed, even though the footage is all the same (I copied and pasted), there’s a slight color difference.

Then maybe I was thinking compositing it but that doesn’t seem it would work either.

It’s actually similar to this but I want to use live action: https://www.skateboardingmagazine.com/action-sports-photography-launch-ramp-skateboard-ollie-stop-motion/

Sounds to me like you are trying to Key footage. Sometimes called chroma key (typically against solid even blue or green BG), Motion does a good job of this as does AE.

It can be tricky to light a chroma key correctly, do some research.

There are ways of keying against a stationary background as long as the camera is on sticks and not moving, and the background is static, I use AE for this.

Looks more like a difference key like in AE.
