I use Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC). I think SuperDuper is really good too.
SuperDuper seems to add updates more often then Carbon Copy Cloner,
if that is of any value, I don’t know.

I just used CCC to make a bootable clone of my Tiger hard disk.
I took the firewire drive that the clone was on down to ProMAX
for them to put onto the Intel dual core…etc. they were configuring
    for me.
I wanted two partitions; one with my old drive (with FCS original installed on it), and another partition with a new OSX Tiger install with FCS2 on it. I am in the middle of a project and wanted to be able to use both versions of FCS and migrate over carefully.

CCC worked perfectly and while I have had a few teething ‘opportunities’,
I am very happy with how the change-over has gone.
I also am quite sure I could have had the same good results with SuperDuper.

    fwiw,

    David

I used to CCC now I SuperDupe. CCC was the first and the best, then development fell behind a bit due to rsync or something for Tiger.

I switched to SuperDuper after that. They both work and CCC has long sincew been ‘fixed’.

The latest version of SuperDuper let’s you do a bootable clone right next to your Time Machine backup. Pretty Sweet if you plan on using Time Machine.

I’m firing up a new Leopard unit and have not dabbled yet with Time Machine. Is time machine not good enough? What more do I get out of Super Duper or CCC?

I just looked back a ways in this forum and found the answer to the question I just posed.

CCC and SUperDuper make bootable clones, meaning you can choose the disk as a startup disk and boot from it. handy when you have different variations of a system such as Quicktime versions or capture card drivers or whatever. Time Machine does not make a bootable clone, it just stores info from different points in time and can restore your disk back to that point in time. Actually I just looked on SuperDupers website and they pretty much sum it up:

Thanks, Jeremy. You tightened up my understanding nicely!
