    Hi all

    I’m looking for a suitable HD video-reference monitor for my Final Cut Pro system. I’m looking for as high a level of accuracy as possible, but would prefer not to spend more than GB£1000 (circa US$1500). I realise this is not a great budget and could be persuaded to spend more.

    I would not describe most ofthe work we are doing as “colour critical” (we go to a post production specialist for this stuff) but would like to get as accurate a representation as possible for the most reasonable price.

    My input would be HDMI from a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card. I’ve been looking at the Sony LMD-2110W, which fits neatly into budget, but can’t find any reviews about it anywhere (the only reference to it on this forum is that the history of this series is not good and I might be better off buying a high end consumer TV).

    Any advice gratefully received.

    Hey Shane,

    Along the same lines…do you use a client monitor and confidence monitor?

    I have a 17″ HDSDI monitor as a confidence…and would like to add a larger 30-40″ for client..and was curious if I should look at a simple consumer HDMI connection, or higher end HDSDI…what is your setup like?

    I do. Currently I am saving up for an FSI, so I am using a Sony PVM-14L5 for confidence monitor, fed via SDI, and then I have a 42″ HDTV fed via HDMI (both from my MXO2) as a client monitor.

    What is your 42″…I’ve been out of the market for HDTV for awhile, do you think there is any benefit/issue with getting an LED, or high refresh rate on a client preview?

    Jason,

    Check out the latest Panasonic Pro Plasmas. They eat more juice than LCD displays, but the new ones come setup almost perfectly right out of the box, especially when using HDMI in.

    Panny Plasmas are still the way to go with client monitors. Still have the best contrast especially when paired up with a true reference monitor like the FSIs.

    I’ve found that the consumer models are the exact same panels, exact same electronics, exact same menu controls that are in the pro models and will actually be putting some of the consumer models in our new facility. The only difference between the Pro and Consumer is consumer has a built in tuner and permanent connections. The Pro model has the modular design so you can change the inputs on it, which is nice, but we’re going all HDMI inputs for the plasmas anyway, so we don’t need the modular inputs anymore.

    Generally speaking, the consumer models are cheaper than the pros. We run 42″ screens in our rooms which are about 12′ x 13′ and we’ll have a 65″ in the screening room which is about 20 x 21.

    Walter,

    Which Panasonic Consumer Model#’s are we talking about? Were you able to compare the picture quality between the pro and consumer models? You’ve been advocating the Pro models for years so I’m surprised but happy that the consumer version will do just fine. =) I too would like a client preview monitor to use while editing on my pvm-14l5. thanks.
