  • Posted by Twann Hudson on August 3, 2009 at 3:41 pm

i recently did an OS X critical up date – and after a stint of problems with graphic card replacement i did a permissions repair – i got a few of these messages

Warning: SUID file “System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Versions/A/Resources/DiskManagementTool” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file “sbin/umount” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file “bin/rcp” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file “usr/bin/quota” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file “usr/bin/rlogin” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file “usr/bin/rsh” has been modified and will not be repaired.

    what does this mean?

    i have FCS 2 6.0.6 running on OS X 10.5.7

the real fun begins when the program loads
running FCS 2 & CS3 MS side by side on the Mac

I am running 10.5.8 and have most of the same warnings as you from Repair Disk Permissions:

Warning: SUID file “System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad” has been modified and will not be repaired.

I have not installed any additional/alternate hardware.

Apple Support recommends this article for warnings you can ignore in 10.5.1:
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

    also see:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1304471

The articles/threads do not list the above warnings that you have as ones to ignore, but the article might not be current for 10.5.7

Hope this helps you narrow down where your problem might be coming from.

I don’t know anyone who knows anything beyond the fact that permissions need repairing from time to time, and that the entire process of repairing them is fully automated. I don’t think you will ever find out what the heck is really happening or what the heck it all means. Just do it and know that it helps and never appears to hinder the operations of most, if not all, Mac computers.
