Suggestions for setting up TV Studio
I thought I’d throw down the guantlet and ask the power users here what they might do with a $60K budget.
I have to get the beginnings of a TV Studio together. We are going to paint chroma-key green on curving walls to be able to green-screen in the future, but for now we are going to use real sets (we just don’t want to “paint ourselves into a corner”).
I was thinking I’d want two cameras and some sort of dolly.
We’d want to do a FCP editing system of course.
A decent RAID with a hotswap for 300g for temp storage.
I have a decent PC already, and I was thinking of using ProMatte software, to do the occassional green screen (but use something dedicated in the future).
We are going to want to stream to the web and be “HD Ready” in the future. So, what two cameras? I’m thinking I’d be spending about $14 K on two with kit. The New Panasonic looks good for the money, and Canon has a new HD coming out — but I haven’t seen much “in the wild” reviews and there are issues with formats and bleeding edge– but NOT getting one of the newer HD cams might be more of a mistake.
Dollys and lights. Not the perfect dolly or light, but decent.
Shotgun mics, or small label lavs or possibly something else to capture sound?– any good devices that don’t require constant attention (some days it will be a one man show, and some days it will be boring content). On a stage or set, could you place fixed mics and do as good a job as LAVs?
Which capture card?I was also thinking of saving room in budget for Maxon Cinema for adding to the CG glamor — or would I be better off with some hardware CG? Got to have a few 3D spinning logos, now and then. 😉
On B&H, I found a 3x3x3 Matrix Switcher for $6k that will handle the highest of HD signals — but it has no CG or trans (for live events in a meeting room). But since this item will have a seperate budget, perhaps their are some ideas for a switcher that could help for studio edits.
I will probably get a bid by a professional video consulting shop, but I thought that some creative ideas or some “if you only had one capture card on a desert island” type of experience would help.
thanks ahead of time.
