Suggestions for F/X Plugins
I just purchased my 2nd G-5 with FCP-HD and would like to know what special effects plugins are recommended. I bought my first G-5 FCP-HD about six months ago and now my 2nd, but as you can see, I’m still very new to Apple. Our older PC systems were all loaded with Hollywood FX and Boris FX which I became very familiar with. The effects loaded with FCP are just a little too simple. Some of my clients want a little more umph. What choices are out there and what are your recommendations? Your input will be appreciated. Thanks.

Boris Continuum Complete is the one I recommend to everyone with an NLE. It’s a great “swiss army knife” of plug-ins from film looks, to glows, to shines to a lot of really nice generators like snow and fire.
Look at Graeme Nattress’s plug-ins as well. It seems like everytime has a need on these forums, he comes up with the plug-in about 2 hours later. And he’s a heckuva nice guy too.

Boris BCC (Effects and composites)
Magic Bullet / Magic Bullet Editor (Film Look)
Joes Filters (wide range of very practical and useful filters – a must!)
Nattress Standards Converter (A must!)
Nattress Film-Look
Eureka plug-ins (many nice ones are free)
DVDxDV (to convert DVD’s to QT format)
Digital Heaven “Box” plug-in (for easy picture in picture work) [See others there too, $10 each)This should get you started.
