suggestions for 2TB hard drive for editing?
We have tons of footage and are trying to consolidate it all onto one 2TB hard drive for editing. We need something stable and fast. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The media is mostly QuickTime files captured and edited in FCP. We will be mostly using G5. Not sure about layers yet… perhaps a few video and audio…

I’ve always had great success with the LaCie 2TB. Drives are like Scotch…everyone has their distinct taste. Whatever you do try and get 800FW at the very least…internal SATA is the best bet, but not knowing what box you’re on…

There are many kinds of QT stuff, from light formats like DV to really heavy stuff.
However you’r bottleneck is the G5.
I think an eSATA would give you enough speed for what that computer can process.
A faster storage would helps nothing, and I think FW800 would limits you some times.
One of those LaCie with eSATA/FW800/400/USB-2 should be OK.

Connection speed is important, of course (eSata, FW800), but so is the drive speed. Most data storage drives are 5400rpm, but for editing make sure you get 7200rpm drives. As for brands, I think G-Tech gives you the best bang for your buck.
