Sudden appearance of “MSP_MXF Plug-In” amongst my imported media
I’m positively befuddled. I’m working on Avid MC 8.6.4. I have only and only been importing all of my footage till now through numbered folders created in the MXF folder. It was all fine until all of a sudden, some of the imported video clips have started showing the icon of being “linked” and in the metadata column of plugin, it shows “MSP_MXF Plug-In”. I’ve tried reimporting, deleting bins and replacing them with reimported footage. It’s fine for some time but it changes back to the linked icon with said plugin in some time. Also, it’s not even uniformly spread. A random amount of clips from the footage will have this issue.
Also, if any pendrive is attached to the system, Avid will automatically create a link in whatever bin is open to some media files on the pendrive. I suddenly see some linked file of some Gujurati movie, for example, turn up whenever a pendrive containing it is attached.
I’m really hoping I’ve explained the issue decently. Has anyone faced this? Why is this happening? Any solutions? -

Thats an option you can turn off in your settings.

Link settings under Volume Mounting, turn off Automatically Link To Volumes.
Older versions refer to this as AMA instead of Link.

Have you ever found a solution to this? I am on 2018.10
In my case, a night guy brought re-transcoded footage in via Source Browser as a Link and it changed even the original source clips (that were already synced) to Link with the link icon… but after removing the AAF files that were created and running relink on the files they do seem to act as usual source clips. However, the icon is still there, a couple of clips reverted their icon thought. And avid still randomly think they are AMA.
I just hope it won’t cause any issue when exporting EDLs and AAFs for Online editor.

This sounds like a very different situation than the thread you are replying to. Yours simply sounds like MC is confused for some reason. I believe the original poster was having clips automatically form links when he or she plugged in a drive.
In either case, your edl or aaf really shouldn’t care if the footage is linked or not. I work in links and non links all the time on the same timeline. The list tells the online box what metadata to use to rebuild the sequence…clip name, reel name etc. How it got into the online box shouldn’t really matter. In most offline/online cases you need to present the source material to the online box anyway, and say “here it is”
