Subtract an autotrace image from a solid
I’ve designed a stencil image in Illustrator. How may I take that image and use it to “carve” (subtract?) from a solid so that I could use a 3D point light to burst through from behind?
I’ve imported the .png image and autotraced it, but not sure where to go from there.

Apply the auto traced layer over the layer you wish to subtract. Change the subtract layer’s track matte to “alpha inverted”. Select both layers and precompose(shift+cntl+C). Now you have a layer with a hole in it.
