I am working on a project to create a silent film look. In particular I am after capturing the effect associated with the frame rate variability inherent in capturing with crank cameras, within maybe one to two frames, and their projection at similar, or slight higher rates.

I am not after an exaggerated sped up effect, rather that the motion looks “crisp” with subtle variability in perceived frame rate, Buster Keaton’s The General is a perfect example.

Any thoughts on how to go about this?

Maybe a very subtle set of variable speed changes would do it…
