  • Subtitles in a 2.35:1 matte in 1920×1080 frame?

    Hello Cows,
I am wondering what the general best practice is for subtitles in 1920×1080 frame but with a matte to fake the 2.35:1 35mm anamorphic frame? In other words, the 1920×1080 has letterbox for the 2.35. Where would you place the subtitles? Does it always have to be on top of the imagery, ie. above the bottom black bar? Or can you place the subtitles within the black bar at the bottom?
I do notice however, that title safe within this framing is just barely below the top edge of the bottom black bar, which doesn’t give much room for the second option, ie. subtitles within the black bar. Because of this, I’m guessing it’s best to just drop the subtitles on top of the imagery above the bottom black bar, to be title safe. But I thought it would be best to just ask people who have experience with this.
    Thanks in advance
    Joseph
