Subtitles in 3D movie
Posted by Andy Borowa on June 18, 2012 at 12:57 pmWhat are the rules for adding subtitles to a movie in 3D? For example: “depth”, duration, interval between subtitles. Where can I read?

June 19, 2012 at 11:33 amFinally there are no rules.
You have to decide and test yourself where the titles should appear in z-space.
This decision also depends on projection/screening (and dimensions of the movie)
Subtitles always disturb the picture, with 3D subtitles it’s even worse.-Andreas

June 19, 2012 at 2:41 pmI don’t think it’s worse. I think it’s better. I think you’ll see 2D movies with subtitles in 3D. you preserve the integrity if the picture and make them easier to read. Have you actually seen any? I have, and I love it.
That didn’t mean it’s not difficult to create them. I don’t have any advice for you except to say that it’s worth the effort for you to try to get this right.

June 19, 2012 at 2:55 pmI’ll do subtitles for a movie trailer for Warner Bros representative. This is a problem because he did not know how to do this (I mean the z-depth).
Z-depth apparently somehow changed with the change of frame (close / wide).
The problem is how much.—
