Subtitles/ FCP
Hi all,
I need to create simple subtitles in FCP with a small transparent rectangular box behind them, not one that extends across the whole screen, but just a box behind the text. Seems to be very east to do in Avid and Premiere etc. Will I have no option but to create a new matte and resize and reposition it every-time i create a new subtitle of a different length?
Any leads…

dunno why you want to do this (as i think it’s ugly, i prefer a shadow and outline, like my FCP text generator creates)
I think the Digital Heaven subtitle plugin can do this.
From memory, this will set you back a hefty 10 bucks.Mine is free, and comes with a demo of a subtitle prep tool
(if you have more than about 20 titles to do, it will be faster to use that. It has a learning curve but it will pay off in the end.

Just use the text generator called “Lower 3rd”.
Choose “background” – Solid and choose you color and the opacity you want.

Thanks for that. Will check it out. Any leads on free plugins would help as well. Is it easy to do the same in livetype?
