Subtitle files in FCP
Posted by Louis Mclellan on July 8, 2010 at 1:37 pmMy client wants to put burned in subtitles in their shows via a .pac file. Can FCP support these files, or would I have ask for another format?

July 8, 2010 at 2:59 pmYou need something that can read PAC files.
I happen to have written some software to do so, and convert them to either FCP XML that drives a text generator, or to XML and rendered PNG files.

July 9, 2010 at 1:05 pmSubtitle mechanics is an involved activity. I would recommend you spend time studying the task at hand before embarking on any trials or making commitments.
I do a fair bit of subtitle stuff with DVDs in India. So I know what it takes.
In this area, I can think of no better experts than Andreas Kiel and Bouke Vahl. So my advice is to just hand it over to Bouke and he’ll do it for you.

July 10, 2010 at 7:34 amI doubt the company is going to pay for another person. We have a .Pac setup for Avid, but I was hoping there may be someting already in FCP I didn’t know about. They may be willing to buy the software though.
