Subtitle disappears in timeline after new chapter. Blu-Ray
Posted by Caston Sacmon on May 6, 2010 at 12:08 pmI am desperate for a fix for this. I have a deadline with a distributor I can’t miss.
I am authoring a Blu-Ray disk on a Mac and when I select the subtitle track then it only stays on for the first chapter in the timeline then stops showing the subtitle.
It works completely in the preview in Encore, but not on the PS3 I use to monitor.
Has anyone found a fix for this? I found a thread about it but there was no solution.
Thanks.

May 7, 2010 at 12:51 pmHi,
Is it stop showing all the subtitle clips in second chapter or it does not show the first subtitle clip in second chapter?
Are you using the next chapter button in remote to play the second chapter? Thanks,

May 7, 2010 at 5:17 pmHey Pankaj, thanks for the response.
When I play the first chapter, the subtitles all show up, but once it plays, or is forwarded with the remote to the second, or any other subsequent chapters, the subtitles do not show.
It is not possible to select them with the button on the remote either after the first chapter.
But in Encore, they all show up for the whole 90 minute film.
This is a Blu-Ray project.
Thanks for the thoughts.

May 8, 2010 at 9:40 amApparently, it is not the chapter change that stops the subtitles. It stops about 5 subtitles into the second chapter and never comes back.
Also, if I select a chapter, other than the 1st chapter, and press the subtitle button on the remote, the subtitles do not come on, even thought I see the little pop-up that says it is indeed on subtitle 1.
Any one have a fix for this? My deadline is Friday next week.
Thanks.

May 10, 2010 at 2:44 pmHi,
Can you please check the movie bitrate?
If the bitrate is more than 36 mbps then subtitle will not come. Thanks,

May 11, 2010 at 4:22 pmSo, i just checked this and with the subtitles on, the Mbps never gets above 32.4 when I monitor on the PS3 on a Blu-Ray-RW disk.
It has been tested on a standalone Sony Blu-Ray Player as well with the same results.
It averages around 25-28 Mbps.
Not sure what it could be. I bought Annotations Editor and will try to export an image script file, but I have to figure out how to do that on a Mac.
With a deadline at the end of the week, I am starting to get nervous about this.
Thanks.

May 12, 2010 at 1:54 pmIf your any subtitle clip starts in first chapter and ends in second chapter and if you select second chapter then you will face this problem.
Could you please upload your project screenshot(Timeline screenshot) or record your project and upload on this site? This will help to resolve this issue. -

May 12, 2010 at 4:56 pmThe subtitles, at least up to the point of where they stop playing, are not spanning a chapter point.
I changed the font to Myriad Pro and it went about 2 lines further then stopped just the same.Attached is a screen grab of the project where the problem happens.
I have at least 3 second spaces between subtitles.
Hope this helps get the to bottom of this.
Thanks

May 13, 2010 at 3:00 pmcan you please check problematic subtitles in monitor window?
If the subtitles goes beyond safe area then those will not display on Blu ray player.
Please see the screenshot below-If this is not the case then please upload your subtitle script.
I will analyze and let you know. -

May 14, 2010 at 9:16 amThank you so much for the help Pankaj. Is it possible you can email me at schackmanfilms@gmail.com?
I would rather not post the subtitle text publicly and this way I could just email it to you.Attached is also a screen shot of the import .txt screen.
I looked and none of the letters like y’s and g’s drop below this line. Maybe they touch it and that is enough at a certain spot to turn off the subtitles.
Not sure. Its strange that the settings are the same for the DVD and the DVD works fine, the Blu-Ray not.
Thanks again.
