I know that subframe audio adjustment is covered in the manual, but it is not working for me.

I have my main audio tracks 1&2 linked to my video track. I have a second stereo pair (M&E track for a film) in 3&4. I need to shift 3&4 about 1/2 frame.
I loaded it into the viewer, moved the bar in the viewer, then set the in point. However the audio does not shift.

    What am I doing wrong?

Hold the Shift key and scrub to where you want the In point. Release the mouse then Shift. Press the I key. The display will disappear momentarily as it rewrites, but it will be in its subframe position.

    All the best,

Thanks. I was trying to figure out how to do this, too.

    Tom,

This works fine for me on a test project with just two clips, but it isnt working on my main project. I’ve tried a dozen times but no dice.

I’m now exporting the AIFF and will tweak in a sound editing program but would really like to understand why it isnt working in FCP. It would be so much easier if it worked as advertised.

Any ideas on what could be causing it not to function properly? There is room on the head and tail of the clip if you are wondering….

    thanks,
    Matthew

If you’re doing this to a clip in the timeline the most likely cause is that moving the In point is rippling the sequence. Clips on other tracks a probably colliding preventing the ripple to execute. You could match frame to the browser clip, adjust the In there, and edit back into the sequence.

    All the best,

Or move your clips to the end of the sequence (nothing to ripple), edit, then move back.
