Hey! Nobody has mentioned that they got subclips right in version 2.0 !!! Or, at least a lot closer to right.

Finally! You drag, drop and up comes a “rename” box. After all of the subclips are taken from the master clip, you can remove the master from the project. Not from the drive, just the project.

It is the only thing I really like about 2.0 and nobody has mentioned it.

    Hi Steven

At first look, I was dissapointed with the 2.0 version, but the fact is that they added a bunch of nice and IMPORTANT features they don’t mention as important (don’t know why):

1.- Invisible video layer, like a null object to put effects over several clips. Very nice feature and big time important for me. Avid is the only one I’m aware also have that.
2.- RS-422 machine control, What took them so long?
3.- HDV machine specific capture templates.
5.- New Cleaner-Like streaming compressor with more fine tuning.
6.- MULTI CHANNEL AUDIO and EMBEDDED AUDIO SUPPORT!!!!!! THAT’S A HUGE IMPROVEMENT!!!This thing only worth the upgrade.
    7.- The PDF thingy rocks.

I’ve changed my mind about this upgrade and I regret the bat things I said about it.

ANother feature that wasn’t mentioned was the new Timecode filter, that finally allows you to add timecode overlays to videos and timelines.

    Jacob,

[Jacob Rosenberg] “ANother feature that wasn’t mentioned was the new Timecode filter, that finally allows you to add timecode overlays to videos and timelines.”

Very Good! Is it just one field for timeline TC or can you have another field or two selectable from the database, like source TC, clip name, reel #, etc?

It’s an effect that has to be applied. It can have a short tag for the source name, but it is one line that can be TC, Frames or a counter with source TC or custom assigned TC.

I may be the only one who thinks this, but it seems like Adobe has added quite a few of the 3rd party “little things” to the Premiere Pro 2.0 package, many that we were finding as outside soltuions. I’m still waiting to see how PPro2.0 handles DVCPRO 50 and DVCPRO HD on P2 cards, and if it can do it natively (lots of clients want to use this camera), but I know Cineform is working on something.

DVCPro 50 and DVCPro HD are going to be supported by Matrox with Axio. I don;t know what cineforms plans are.

    Jacob,

[Jacob Rosenberg] “DVCPro 50 and DVCPro HD are going to be supported by Matrox with Axio.”

They already are. The real question is whether the MXF wrapped P2 files from the P2 cards or Firestore and the like will be supported natively, or if the MXF data must be stripped from the files, like FCP and Avid, and the DVCPro files ingested like FCP (Avid has a cludge that enables them to store the MXF data in the Avid database and edit native-like from the cards.) Do you know anything about the Matrox approach? Only Edius can currently handle MXF (P2 or Sony IMX) truly native from from their source media.

If Matrox can break the MXF boundaries perhaps they can supply a 3rd party plugin for PPro to work natively with P2 and DVCPro files of whatever stripe? Just speculating.

I so loooooooove the new subclips of PP2.0. Finally I can use it properly for TVC offlines. It was a nightmare to go through hours of footage and not have a way to group them properly.

I don’t have specifics on what Matrox is doing. I have been patiently waiting for a system to get up to speed on. I have been quite swamped with Black Magic and CineForm…
As soon as I know and can share, I will.
