  • Subclips remaking as original clips

So whenever I splice a clip into two, each version of that clip gets turned into a full clip of the original. Whenever I clip off a portion of the original clip for a small piece of video I need, it shows it in the Project Media as the original clip with the original name, I’ll have 10 items with the same picture and name, and time and, everything… So whenever a clip should be turned into a 2 second clip it gets turned into a 3 minute clip instead in the Project Media box, and it is lagging the crap out of Sony Vegas. Any help ?

It’s making this editing job that should have taking half an hour taking 4 hours and counting. It also keeps coming up with “Creating audio proxy for 0]” which then fails and gives an error message, and if I open anything up while Sony Vegas is running (Or just randomly happens) Sony vegas closes down and wants me to send an error report.

    Something is seriously wrong here…

Make a true subclip (look it up in the online help menu) of the original event, either through the Trimmer or by right-clicking the newly split event.
You’ll end up with a virtual event that can be renamed as desired and won’t tax your system it all.

I’ve never quite understood about the subclip. Whenever I make one it does not seem to appear in my directory of events.
    Also…
Say I have a camera running for 20 minutes and only want to use 10 seconds of that footage, will a subclip leave me with only that 10 seconds of footage so I won’t have to keep the 20 minutes of footage on my HD taking up space?

If I create a subclip, it’s automatically added to Project Media as shown below.

Sorry but a subclip is truly virtual and you need the original footage for it to reference to.
The only workaround is to render the subclip as a new event, preferably in the same format.
If not, than render using a lossless format.

I think that you don’t understand “Events”.

If it’s on the timeline, it’s an event – not a clip. This is important for two reasons. First, on the timeline, an event points to the media (clip). You can have multiple events on the timeline from one clip. You can trim the event, add a bunch of F/X to the clip, and even pan-crop the event. But you never touch the media (clip). This is non-destructive editing. And you can have more events pointing to the same media with each doing something different from the other events. Second, if you search the help file for “how do I do xyz to a clip”, you won’t find anything because if it’s on the timeline, it’s an event – not a clip.
