  • Subclips and Velocity Question

Hey everyone, hoping someone has an answer to why this happened. I import a long event. 2 hrs. I split and delete, split and delete, until I have the material I want. This ends up being a bunch of clips. I don’t know how this happened bc I never touched a create subclip setting but on one of my vegs I went back on, all my many clips were their own subclip. I noticed bc I need to add a velocity to each clip and find the loop marker within that clip so the events ends at the right moment and it all looks like one continuous event sped up.

Just so you know what im trying to accompish, my camera was setup in same spot with no camera movement for 2 hrs in a house for a surprise party) My splits and deletions I made were long periods of dead space. Goal was to speed up people walking around the house at 8 times normal speed and go back to normal speed when people are greeted at the door, and then back again to high speed again

I could not replicate this auto-subclip again for whatever reason. I try the same thing and I end up with a bunch of clips that when I drag it only loops when I get past the 2hrs total event. On all my other projects I need to now use this subclip option. I don’t know how I did it originally without knowing it but is there an option that whenever I split my event it becomes its own event/subclip?? Hope this made sense. thx

You know you could have used just ONE Velocity Envelope, for the entire 2 hours? No need to Split it down, just using the Points for Ramps, Holds and so on.

Where do you apply a velocity envelope at track level?

[Roger Bansemer] “Where do you apply a velocity envelope at track level?”

You can’t. Would be good if you could though.

My point was that you don’t NEED to Split to apply the Envelope to then adjust the Velocity to a specific Region or Selection, it can ALL be done to ONE Event with ONE Envelope and add POINTS.

However . . . . If one was to then make a separate, new VEG of those Splits, you could then import the selection as a Nested VEG and THEN you could apply ONE Envelope to those Split Events. 😉

Thx Guys. Don’t think adding a velocity envelope to the entire 2 hrs solves my problem. My reason for splitting was to delete huge caps of no people moving through the event. So I remove that material and end up with a bunch of clips. I also want/need to speed up portionos the event 8 times which means I need to compress fully which is 4 times playrate and then add velocity at 200%. Other potions are not compressed at all and play at normal speed.

So the split clips will have to be there, and after I add velocity I will need to shrink the end of the clip to have it end at the same point in time of where I split it originally.

I guess I could add velocity to entire 2 hours without adjusting it. Split and remove areas where needs. Highlight entire work and select create subclip, remove velocity from clips I don’t want sped up, compress where desired, and then adjust velocity individually. Seems like a lot of work….Would love to make my splits. join the subclips I want joined so it is one continuous clip, not group, make it a subclip, and apply the compress and velocity.

To my original post though, any reason why sony made my split clips into subclips without me slecting “create subclips?” thx

Can’t help with the reason you got subclips all of a sudden. BUT, if you group the entire set of subclips, you can ctrl drag the whole bunch to whatever speed you want them and all your pancrop and effects will shrink with them.

so, any notes on somehow automatically create subclip when trimming? Is any script for this stuff? Like, copy event attributes from original clip (to preserve speed, pan/crop etc.), create subclip, put it instead original, so loop point was at the end of current subclip and then paste event attributes in it?
