Stuttery AMA Playback
We have AMA clips playing back very stuttery, dropping frames like crazy.
The external 7200rpm drive is connected via SATA, so I don’t think it’s the connection.
We had great playback previously.
Would this be caused by the NVIDIA Quadro 2000 graphics card, or the Kona I/O,
which has given us issues in the past? Not sure if that Kona has anything to do with desktop playback.
This is an HP Z400 w/12GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro.
MC is version 6.0.5, files are 720p 59.94 DNXHD 145.
We have a lot of footage so trying to avoid pulling in unedited footage
and importing directly, chewing up drive space.
Is this one of the cards or perhaps something else…?Help, please…

What type of footage? From what camera? Not all footage will give decent playback via AMA. Most are too compressed. Many formats don’t lend to AMA native editing.
Low on space? Transcode to a low res codec like DNx36 and relink to masters later.

This was recorded on AJA rackmount studio disk recorder, 720p 59.94 DNXHD 145.
Does that help?No color coding in timeline.

Yeah…just what I needed. Hmmmm…Avid codec as a Quicktime..should work. But you can try to just CONSOLIDATE it from the drive it was recorded onto to your Media drive. That’ll simply re-wrap it as MXF, and that might perform better.

Are the drives starting to fill up? As they do, files on the outer portion of rotating disks can be slightly slower and have reduced sustain rates compared to those towards the center. This may explain why it works better for a while, then starts not to.
Are the drives striped?

Michael,
I researched ‘striped’ and this is not a RAID, just a single external drive. I have been using it with good results previously.
