I just set up permeire pro 1.5 on my new dell inspiron 9200 laptop (the one they refer to as a multimedia powerhouse) and i’m having a little issue with capturing video. I’m going to preface this by saying I just started capturing late last night so there are a number of things i’m going to try and do to resolve the issue, but I’m looking (as always) for a quick fix. The problem is that when I capture video, from my mini DV camera, through a firewire to my external drive, it looks great while its capturing. As soon as i stop however, and play the clip off this time line, it plays like it has a strobe light effect on it. I tried putting a de-interlace filter on and it helped but it still looks jerky. Does anyone know anything about this?

Is yours a playback or capture issue? Did you drop frames on capture? Will the video play smoothly from the system drive?

You should have no problem on that particular machine in terms of power. If you are monitoring the video through your camcorder then check that the 1394 port is disabled in the network connections panel. If windows is trying to use that port it will interrupt the data for networking signals.

If you have anti-virus running, set it so it only scans incoming and outgoing data. Most programs scan everything that goes through the processor. In fact, temporarily disable and antivirus or firewall software that might be running.

Just a couple of guesses. Let us know if there is still a problem.

Is your camcorder and external drive connected to the same firewire port?

No it wont playback smoothly. I think it’s a playbak issue because I’m not getting any dropped frame messages and it plays smootly in the capture window. It only starts jumping on the timeline. Also for some reason it’s requiring me to render it before i can play it imediatly after capture.

Thanks! I’ll give that a try and let you know what happens.

No my camcorder is conected to the IEEE 1394 port and the external harddrive is connected to a USB 2.0.

Don’t attempt to use an external drive. Use internal drives for editing and external for backups and other storage.
