    Hi all,

Since ’99 I’ve been editing portions of the pre-ceremony and ceremony into a presentation that I project at the reception – many know it as the same-day edit. As I got more confident with the process I’ve agreed to do them even if the schedule is very tight. (I work alone, so logistics are a big concern.) So here’s my conundrum: In order to put together a quick highlights I take 30 – 40 hastily selected shots, individually adjust the speed so they are all a specific length, cut the ends to allow for overlap and combine them with a 3 second dissolve. This is all done shot-for-shot, which is rather tedious and time-consuming. There has to be a way to automate the process, right? I’ve tried systems of fit-to-fill and batch razor blading with little success. What I’d like to do, in an automated way, is take a bunch of shots (that are in the order I want them to occur), make them them the same length with a speed adjustment (regardless of the original length of the clip), cut each end by 1 1/2 seconds, and then lay them all out on a timeline connected with 3 second dissolves. Seems simple enough, but I’m too lame to figure out a way. An example of what I present is here:

Any help would be greatly appreciated – even if its cutting down the time associated with any of the steps involved. I usually have about an hour to cut these, so the faster I can do it the more complex it can be.
