    Greetings,
I’m using AE CS2 on a PC. The project I’m working on is making a magazine style layout except all the picture windows are video. I started by laying out each page and then putting all those comps into a larger “magazine” comp. All the layers are 3D because the camera has to move around to highlight certain things and I’ve collapsed all the individual pages. Here is the problem, in the individual page comps I’ve used an adjustment layer with stroked masks on it to make little black lines that you would see at the top of a magazine. They look fine in the page comps, but they just don’t show up in the magazine comp. I’ve tried reordering the adjusment layer, making it 2D, and uncollapsing the comp. When I uncollapse the comp I see the lines, but everything else is all crappy and low res. I don’t get it. Any suggestions?

Unless the pictures are supposed to pop off the page, I’d make one big comp for each page with all the videos 2D, and put the little lines on a solid, not an adjustment layer as Dave wrote.

(Adjustment layers are only to be used when you want to apply an effect to all the layers below in one go.)

Then I’d bring each page comp into a master comp, and make each page 3D so the camera can buzz around.

Thanks for your suggestions. I did end up using a solid for the lines. Unfortunately the pictures are supposed to pop up out of the page at different points, so I can’t do 2D comps for the pages. That would make it a lot easier. I’m running into an annoying problem now where sometimes the pages go through each other and make elements disappear because they are all in the same Z space. I vaguely remember something in the past about being able to change an option somewhere so that even in 3D the layer order was absolute. Maybe I’m thinking of a different program. Anyway, thanks for your help.
