Has anyone else found a GOOD way to add a stroke to a scaled down, inset video layer in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4?
I used to use the “clip” effect in older versions… but this was omitted since CS2. Problem is, a lot of commercial clients LOVE to reuse old tricks–and now old projects open up with the effect stripped. I can get there with “Write-on”, but it takes a lot more work… so other than waiting for responses to ‘feature request’, what is everyone else out there doing to add stroke?

Have a look at: FAQ:How do I add a border to a clip?

Much easier than constructing a frame with ‘write-on’. Thanks, Eddie.

True, but only because three years and as many paid software versions later …there STILL is no simple stroke effect in Adobe Premiere.

This post is still #1 in Google results so I figured I’ll post this here. It’s a plugin called CI Feathered Crop by Creative Impatience:

    https://www.creativeimpatience.com/feathered-crop/

There’s a border setting that adds a nice stroke effect, and unlike the radial shadow, it stays a consistent width whether it’s mostly cropped or not cropped (if you need that). For a static image radial shadow is probably still better, since you do have to crop your image just a tiny bit to get the border, but if you’re doing any swipes or cropping, it works really well!

Thanks, Alex. CI Feathered Crop is a nice free effect from the folks at Creative Impatience.
Since it’s crop and border capabilities are limited to straight lines (no use on certain logos or type), I still favor Radial Shadow.
But I do like that CI Feathered Crop lets you invert its crop to achieve a cutout (“yawn” for After Effects, but a real “wow” moment for a Premiere effect).

Adobe: A simple stroke effect would still be greatly appreciated.
