Forgive me for my inability to figure out the obvious, but how do you make a dissolve longer or shorter? If someone can help me out, I’d appreciate it.

Overlap the two clips MORE for a longer dissolve. LESS for a shorter dissolve. The amount that you overlap the clips determines how long the dissolve will be.

Thanks. I was hoping and trying to just “butt” the two clips together on the same track and drop the dissolve between them, but I guess I need to just put them on two separate tracks. –I knew I could do it this way and drop the transparency on both of them, but I was hoping for a faster way.

    Thanks for your help

Don’t use two tracks… USE ONE! Just overlap the two clips and instant crossfade. It’s so simply I wouldn’t ever use two tracks without some specific reason to do so. The bigger the overlap, the longer the crossfade. If you want something besides a crossfade, just drop the desired transition onto the crossfade.

If you insist on butting them togther, just press “/” on the numeric keypad to add a crossfade.

Thanks a lot man. I knew there had to been a better and faster way than what I was thinking. This was my first Post and I appreciate your responses. Thanks.

Since you’re just starting, you might want to take a look at my newsletters at http://www.jetdv.com and, particularly, the “Beginner’s Corner” series that begins in the 4th issue. While geared to the full version of Vegas, most of the concepts also apply to the Movie Studio versions.
