I am working with a Panasonic HVX200 and Avid Xpress Pro HD. I can connect the camera via firewire and stream live into Avid and I can load a clip into the color correction toolset and open a vector scope or waveform monitor, but I cannot seem to do both at the same time. Is it possible to use Avid as a real time scope?

No – you’ll need (and want) external scopes. Avid scopes are not real time, to the best of my knowledge.

If you look at the digitize tool, you’ll see a little vectorscop icon. Click on that and you’ll get a vector/WFM you can use on analog sources. Since you can’t usually adjust the video levels via a TBC using SDI or Firewire, you won’t have the option of using a scope.

No adjustment, No Scope. Makes sense. I need to match two cameras in the field and want to minimize the amount of gear we are a hauling around. Does anyone know of a software based vectorscope that could rum on a laptop and work with 60p over firewire from an HVX200?
