Strange video output in 2 frame single window
Some time ago, I started combining two tapes into two separate frames within a single frame, you may remember. (see an earlier discussion)
And an earlier solution of deleting and not rendering during the initial edit made it much easier to insert titles which are being used as open captioning.
I inserted and synced two reels of tape, a single clip of about 60 minutes each, all shot simultaneously at the same time and event. Camera 2 focussed on the American Sign Language interpreters, while Camera 1 focussed on stage action.
At the end of the play, there is a short sequence of low-lit individuals behind transparent screens. The lights on stage fade to black for a few seconds, before bringing up stage lighting to reveal the cast taking bows.
The two frames were placed on a fairly light coloured matte (D3A9CE). The stage lighting is fairly dark.
In the case of the frame devoted primarily to the ASL interpreters when the stage darkens at the end and fades to black, the larger frame does fade to black, but the smaller frame does not fade to black, but fades to a greyish colour and not to black as in the original footage.
I’ve tried to duplicate this in another sequence and at full frame the footage of camera two does indeed fade to black. When there is a matte underneath (Vid 1) and footage above it (Vid 2)- the footage does fade to black and not “grey”.
However, in the real edit, I seem unable to get it to fade to black. Just don’t know what to do. I tried rendering that specific small section, but that made no difference. I’ve done something wrong, but don’t what. Got a deadline of Saturday am. What a bum-mer, just this single problem.
Jon’s COW Tutorials seem very interesting, but move too fast to absorb. Would like to slow them down, or copy them, and be able to stop them at each stage of the presentation.
Any tips or direction appreciated….

Try;
File>New>Black Video
Place the black video in a superior track at the end and fade it up from zero opacity to 100% opacity. -

That seemed to work, thank you so much. It does leave a slightly longer period of solid black, and I’ll have to smooth out the fade a bit. Don’t understand what happened, since the original footage is just fine in the test I did.
Wonder if you could take a copy of the original and see if it would cover the grey image.. (just wondering., the fix is just fine.)
