February 15, 2008 at 4:54 amHmmm, this has quite sinister undertones for the future of long GOP and FCP, what will happen to the XDcam HD flavours that everyone is holding out for? Doesn’t bode well does it.
In the meantime I’m using Quicktime, fortunately I only use HDV for one little “piece to camera” to intro a full HD sequence, but its a bigger hassle than exporting the entire DVCProHD timeline that I spend all day working on…
Thanks for your help, maybe someone from Apple may read this one day.

March 8, 2008 at 1:02 amIts definitely a glitch in FCP. A patch will be written for it and will probably be a future update. In the meantime – export as QuickTime movie – first export option, (not using QuickTime Conversion). Reconvert from there. This affects mostly those using FCP 5.1.4 that has been updated online, with a quad core intel mac, shooting HDV. Almost no other combination of workflow shows this problem. E.g. a pre intel mac isn’t affected as far as we could tell.

March 8, 2008 at 9:22 amThat figures… The interesting thing is though, I did a test on a different computer, also a dual Intel mac that was running FCP 6 and the same thing happened.

March 8, 2008 at 11:13 amThe fault was carried through to FCP 6 – much to our dismay, as we bought it hoping to jump past the problem. It was only due to the nature of our work with Apple that we got so much access to Apple Heads. I found the workaround.
I’m not having a go at Apple either. I think their products are great, and they DO listen to feedback and adjust their products accordingly – I can’t say that happens with many other products. I’m generally very happy with them. Since updating FCP6 a few weeks back (and it was a big update) I haven’t noticed a problem. I will make a point of repeating the original tests on the original media when I am back in work and will post my findings here.

March 8, 2008 at 1:28 pmToo true, we’d be up the creek without FCP. Its a fantastic app. I have a feeling HDV and long GOP is a nightmare to deal with both on a computing and personal level!
Then again, in most instances, that goodness for HDV.
Thanks for the responses Marc.
