Strange Phenomenon
Hi!
I have just created a cornerbug in Motion and for some reason I needed the cornerbug as a TITLE (to place on top of the primary storyline) and as an EFFECT (to drop directly onto a clip).
Both Motion “Templates” use the same .PSD source image.When I now have a clip in the timeline with the corner bug-effect applied and directly after this clip have the cornerbug appied as a TITLE effect, there is a subtle (but quite noticeable) color shift between the cornerbugs from the different effects.
Does anyone have an idea why, or is the corner bug-issue a real “bug”?

Use the color space override feature in the “extended view” of the info tab in the inspector on the psd doc.
Perhaps it’s not set to 709 and is being shown as something else.

Now THAT I’ll try asap. Must be something like that, but strange that the same image is treated differently, when its in a EFFECT as opposed to a TITLE.

Seems to me it could be a color space issue or perhaps an alpha channel interpretation.
What were your steps exactly?

I used a PSD file in a Motion EFFECT. In this effect nothing happens, but the PSD Logo gets resized and placed close to the safety lines in the top right hand corner of the frame. The same happens in the TITLE version of the corner bug. PSD imported, resized and placed. That’s it. No other effects were used in motion that the ones described above. certainly nothing that would explain the color shift. I recon “Color Space Interpretation” feels like the likely cause. There is no alpha in the Logo. It’s just a square box.

I beat my head against the wall for a while on this one too.
The issue is, you have color corrected the clip you are applying the “effect” to. FCX “stacks” the corrector so that it acts on the clip after the “effect” is applied, therefore, any changes to your clip also affect your corner bug. There doesn’t seem to be a way to change the order.
My workaround was to make the clip a compound, step into it and color correct there, then only apply my graphic effect to the compound on the timeline. Hope this helps!
