Strange Kona 2 Problem
I’ve been working with Clark at AJA support on this but wanted to post it to see if anyone else has experienced the problem.
Working now with 10.3.9; Kona 1.1 software (and card flashed to latest update).
All of a sudden, cannot get component output or analog audio through either K Box or through analog cable from Kona 2. They are shooting me out a new board today (another reason why I like and recommend AJA– there is no better support in the industry). Have trashed FCP prefs, restarted from cold boot, and just about every other trick I know.
Going from K Box SDI to HDP and from their to DVI input of LCD panel. No probem with picture. Taking embedded audio from the HDP or audio from the monitor of the K-box, no audio.
Second issue: component video from K box downconverted to Sony PVM 14M2U component input, no video. No audio from analog monitor on K Box. Likewise, no video on analog cable from Kona 2 directly to monitor.
While it sounds like a bad Kona 2 to both of us, just wanted to ask colleagues here to see if anyone else has experienced this. Of course, this is happening just as I have someone coming today to see my system, finish a film, etc etc.

Oh great skinny one, I’ve not seen this with the exact same setup… figure it’s the card or the kbox.. and more likely the card.

AJA just sent me a new Kona 2 card, which I’ll swap out tonight after I get all the paying stuff out of the way. It’s terrible when business gets in the way of troubleshooting hardware.
We actually suspect the card since I did boot up from an external disk with 10.3.8 and still could not get analog component video or audio from the K Box or the Kona.

Still no go with the new board. I’ll be working on a client’s system tomorrow where I’m installing two Kona 2 set ups and I’ll see if I have any better results. Meanwhile, for one of those rare times in my know-it-all life, I’m stumped.

Dude, 10.3.9 is not going anywhere’s near my FCP machines. That OS has cause some really annoying problems with several of my G4’s and my G5’s will never see 10.3.9. I’m going straight to Tiger as soon as my new G5 arrives and will test everything out on that machine before it hits my regular FCP machine.

FWIW, solved problem…. Bad K Box… Replaced K Box and now get my analog video as well as audio monitor.
