  • Strange issue with ‘title crawl’ text generator

Posted by Dan Brazil on September 9, 2005 at 6:02 pm

When adding text using the title crawl text generator, all the text appears jagged and noticable interlaced. In short it looks awful and produces video of a less than satidfactory standard. This doesn’t happen with the other text generators, e.g. Lower 3rd. I have mangaged to find a workaround by putting a deinterlace filter on it, but surely this is not best practice? Why is the the title crawl behaving like this – or am I alone here?

BTW I am using it to create a ticker tape that scroll along the bottom of my video.

    Many thanks you guys,

    Dan B

Text tools seem flunky in FCP. I always use photoshop or after effects for title work and import into the sequence. I tried to reproduce what you were saying and it looks clean on my end. However, jaggy edges do appear if text is repositioned in the y-axis. The workaraound there is to set the text on a whole number, rather than one with a decimal behind it. This is assuming your sequence settings have a field dominance to them. Does that help at all?

It’s also a common practice where I work to make sure the text is on an “even” whole number (in the motion tab – both X and Y axis). When doing this, I’ve had no problems with crawls – except for the rendering times but that’s a different issue in itself.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think it may have been a rendering issue.
