Strange flikkering and render mistakes using Star Generator in BCC 7
Posted by Itamar Kool on December 15, 2011 at 12:01 pmWhen using the star Generator in BCC 7 with galaxies on and shining stars I get render mistakes regularly in preview as well a in the final render. What would be the remedy?

December 15, 2011 at 2:12 pmHi,
What is the exact nature of the errors that you mention? Can you describe them in detail?
Meanwhile, would it be possible for you to try to do this in After Effects with the same filter to see if it works in that environment?
Thanks,
Peter.

December 15, 2011 at 2:21 pmI am actually working in After Effects. Sorry that I didn’t mention that. It is somethinh I believe I have noticed before. Every so many seconds a part of the picture is blank for a couple of frames. The things that should have been there just don’t show up. Couple of frames later the picture is complete again.

December 15, 2011 at 2:27 pmVery odd alright. What are the dimensions of the frame? What (if any) parameters in the filter are set to animate?
Thanks,
Peter.

December 15, 2011 at 2:54 pmThe composition is in old fashioned PAL 720×576 (not anamorphic). No animated keyframes. Galaxies are on as well as shinig stars

December 15, 2011 at 3:03 pmCould you please save the settings file from the BCC Stars filter and send that to me – I’ll then try to reproduce it here on one of our systems. Interestingly I just used a Mac with AE CS 5.5 and BCC 8 to render out a 10 second HD 1920 x 1080 clip and every frame was as expected. I’ll try it again with your settings.
You can send that to me at peterm@borisfx.com
Thanks,
Peter.

December 15, 2011 at 3:17 pmHi Peter, Thanks for the quick responses!! I believe I just found the problem. I had ‘multiple layers’ on with the move type ‘forward’. When I unchecked the mutiple layers box en put the move type back to ‘side’, the problem had gone. Before all this, AE had crashed when I put the move type to ‘forward’ without checking the mutiple layers box. Is this somehow meaningful?

December 15, 2011 at 3:28 pmWell I’m really glad that you were able to discover the issue and are now able to complete the project. I’ll see if setting up the filter as you have done on one of our systems enables us to reproduce the missing frame on render.
Anyway, glad that you got it to work.
Cheers,
Peter.
