One of our guys came to me with a very strange EX3 problem yesterday. When pulling the focus ring back to “full manual” it occasionally does not affect focus; turning the ring has no effect. At that point, sliding the ring forward to its servo mode again also has no effect. Switching to auto focus works every time. At that point, switching back to manual (in servo mode) will work once again.

I worked with it for a while last night to see if it did this at a certain point in the lens’ focus range, zoom range, things like that. I didn’t come up with any particular isolated circumstance. I could reliably reproduce the behavior, though.

Obviously my next step (when we can feasibly take a camera out of service) is to send the lens back to Sony. I’m posting this more to ask if anyone has seen a similar issue from one of their EX cameras.

    Thanks,
    Cf

    Hi Clint,

We had a similar issue to this. Turns out that we lost back focus after the lens was taken off for cleaning and not properly calibrated upon re-seating.

We recalibrated back focus and it worked fine ever after.
