Strange Downconversion Problem
I’m working with the Panasonic 1200A DVC Pro HD deck, and I’ve successfully downconverted some HD footage, which has been loaded as DV into FCP over Firewire. The odd problem I’m having is that the footage appears to be coming into FCP with burned-in timecode.
I’ve connected the deck to my external SD monitor and set up the output as analog so I can see the video on that monitor. When I go into capture, the image on the monitor is clean — no timecode. However, the image in the capture window has timecode, and after I capture a clip and bring it into the source window, I see burned-in timecode in the source window and on the external monitor. I’ve changed the menu settings on the deck that seem to relate to this, but it has not helped.
The computer is a dual 1.8 G5, 1 GB RAM running FCP 5.0. I’m loading footage to an external Firewire hard drive.
My contact at my equipment rental house is baffled by this, as is a service person from Panasonic that she spoke to. I’m hoping that it’s some setting I’ve missed, either in FCP or on the deck. If anyone’s experienced something like this before, I’d appreciate any help. Thanks,
Todd
