Strange bd-r issues
Hi All,
I’m currently working with a small documentary post production house in Toronto and we’ve encountered a strange problem with our authored BD-Rs. After exporting an ISO from Encore the file was brought into toast and burned onto BD-R. We verified playback on a Panasonic bluray player and everything worked fine. The disc was taken to the director’s home for screening and his Sony bluray player didn’t like the disc. After insertion the player immediately paused playback. Pressing play showed a play icon, but then the disc paused once again. Upon return to our suites we checked the disc in our player again and it worked fine. Does anyone know what could cause this and how to avoid it in future?

Sam,
Unfortunately compatibility between Blu-ray players and recordable BD-R or RE stock is not universal. A firmware upgrade on the player in question may solve the problem. Try the disc in several players to see if it is a player problem.
Also very high bitrates on recordable discs pose a playability issue on Blu-ray similar to what happens on DVD-R discs.

Wow, have to love that. Is there a way to maximize comparability? I looked up tutorials on adobe’s website for FCP>Encore workflows and found 3 separate sets of
instructions which were completely inconsistant. The disc in question was a 15mbit average vbr mpeg-2 with the bluray stream type – is any other setting preferable?Thanks for your assistance
