straight lines with pen tool after effect 6
Posted by Melanie Rozette on April 13, 2008 at 2:15 pmhello,
I have a mac book pro, can anyone explain to me how to create a straight line with the pen tool, it seems that it only creates curved lines (even when I press on shift)…
thank you for your help

April 13, 2008 at 7:45 pmMaking strait lines can be done by clicking with the pen but with out dragging the pen. 90 degree and 45 degree lines can be made by pressing shift. If you have a curved line and want to remove the curve if you hold down the pen tool you can change to the convert vertex tool this can be used to add or remove curves form lines. click once to remove a preexisting curve form a line.

September 7, 2009 at 4:12 pmWOW melanie rozette, im so glad someone else is experiencing this, i have stripped the web of any content about this and have not found anything, and even in your post no one seems to know what the issue is. holding shift doesn’t work, simple as that. Also unchecking Rotobeizer gives your straight lines but only at like 45 and 90 degrees and its like impossible to place them where you want. im watchnig a tutorial right now and the guy is making perfect straight lines where ever he wants without a problem. This is SUPER frustrating. I know im probably just missing the little buttom which will allow me to make the straight lines, so i really need someone to just walk me through it. PLEASE (sorry for spelling error i didnt have time to speel check, gtg!)

December 7, 2009 at 1:00 pmHi delete what you’ve done (ie a mask shape whatever) and start again from scratch. Pick up pen tool (top one in the drop down menu, when you left click next to the icon) and start to draw your shape again, but make sure you start off by drawing a diagonal line first and then it lets you draw straight lines in any direction.
If you draw a horizontal line first, it seems to get stuck drawing at right angle only.
Hope this helps

April 23, 2012 at 7:56 pmThe way I create STRAIGHT LINES is by simply clicking on the POINT that I just drew before creating a new POINT. So, before you create your 2nd Point, click on the 1st Point.
I have AFTER EFFECTS CS5 (which is the 10th Version of After Effects).
