August 5, 2010 at 6:03 pmSTEP is a solid modeling format — could be from SolidWorks or similar. Rhino and other CAD programs are able to convert STEP to Cinema readable formats.

August 5, 2010 at 6:30 pmthe Rhino demo gives you 20 or so free conversions. I’m down to 12 left!

August 5, 2010 at 10:20 pmYep, in addition to being a great nurbs modeler, Rhino also makes a great conversion utility. If you’re looking for something less expensive and easier to use you might want to check out Moi3d — https://moi3d.com/
I’ve heard very good things about it but haven’t used it myself (long-time Rhino user). It’s being developed by a former Rhino guy and from what I hear it does a better job converting nurbs to polygons.

August 5, 2010 at 11:13 pmHey Adam,
MoI is VERY good. It was developed by Michael Gibson… he’s the original developer of Rhino. 🙂 I love C4D, but MoI is just faster and better at some modeling tasks. I often use it to build certain kinds of geometry (curved surfaces with holes) and export to LWO or OBJ. I then import into C4D using Riptide. Anyway, I hope you get a chance to try it.
Oh yeah, MoI does import .STP files.
Thanks,
Shawn

August 6, 2010 at 1:21 amI downloaded TurboCAD Deluxe (trial) and had no luck. Tried Rhino on a friend’s PC…nada.
Anyone out there want to give the conversion to .obj a shot? The files pretty big (230mb).
Thanks!

August 6, 2010 at 8:12 pmDid you try MoI on your friend’s PC? 🙂 MoI’s exporter is actually a lot better than Rhino’s… alternately, if you have a way of getting it to me, I would be more than happy to take a shot at converting your file for you. Let me know.
Thanks,
Shawn

July 2, 2012 at 11:38 amI have a stp and an igs file and want to import it into c4d!
I tried to open it in Rhino but it does not look good.
How can I otherwise convert it. What codec should I use for Cinema 4d? -
