  • Stopping render mid-way but keeping progress – possible?

    Hi there,

I’m a longtime Final Cut user who’s had to switch over to Premiere for a client’s project. As a result I’m still acclimating to the application.

For the most part I’ve been able to figure out what I need to do through trial and error, or by looking online but there’s one question I haven’t been able to get an answer to yet.

In final cut, if I have to render something and I stop it midway I can pick up where I left off. We commonly do this on longer renders to ensure that if the app crashes or something goes wrong we don’t lose all our progress along the way.

I noticed when rendering a big long section of a video with TCR for the client yesterday that when I did this it appeared as though I had lost all my progress – which is to say the red render-bar remained red throughout the entire timeline (whereas in final cut it would have been red only for the section that had yet to be rendered).

What I’m curious to know is whether or not premiere behaves the same as final cut – allowing you to resume renders where you left off – or if everytime you render it starts from scratch.

I’ll admit I’m still wrapping my head around Premiere in general, and understand that because it’s 64 bit and can take better advantage of the GPU certain things don’t even appear to require rendering like they did in FCP (a chroma key for example).

If anyone could help to clarify the situation it would be greatly appreciated!

PrPro works a little different in that you do not have to render the sequence before exporting it. Unless there is an absolute need to render the timeline you should just send it to Media encoder for final export.

The render files in the timeline are just previews and if you de end up rendering, make shure to check “use Previews” in the media encoder settings.

I know that does not help with your actual question but it may give you some insight on the PrPro workflow.

    good luck.
