  • stop warning message – anyone?

This operation would move items out of sync, are you sure you want to continue?

Is there a way to disable this? I’m trying to cut a short drama and this message appears before most insert edits, not all. I use the sync indicators to help choose edits, so I’d rather not unlink all of my audio/video, but I’m going to if I can’t stop this message another way.

I appreciate FCP is concerned about my editing but I understand my timeline and if something’s going out of sync, it’s on purpose.

    Thanks,
    Aren

Unlink your clips. If the audio in the clips is irrelevant to the video that’s what you should do. Seems odd though, that you don’t mind your nat sound getting knocked out of whack. Maybe you’re not going to use the nat? The I’d say unlink it at delete it and get it out of the way. It’s a few keystrokes.

The fact is that stuff isn’t actually going out of sync. I can’t believe there isn’t a little ‘don’t warn me again’ checkbox.

As a bonus, you can’t move this window, it’s locked dead center on the main screen, appears there every time, which is exactly where I’m not looking after I do an edit, so I don’t notice it.

The fact that the Video and Audio are automically linked bothers me. For the exact reason this thread was started. I want to move my video separate from my audio all the time. if I wanted both, I’d shift click…

Can’t disable that function…as much as I’d like to.

Are you not just talking about linking here? (shift-L) Which can easily be turned off.

Do you have tracks locked? Turn off track locks. That’s probably why it’s warning you. But I’ve never seen it warn unless something IS going to go out of sync. Doesn’t mean it’s something you’re going to notice. But FCP considers your timeline to be in sync. So if you lock a track, say the music track, and try to insert something and it’s unable to slide down the music track because it’s locked, then it’s going to complain. And if that’s the way you’re editing the locks should be off.

Yeah, sure there could be a checkbox. But the fact that this is the first time I’ve heard anyone complain about it (I’ve seen the dialog about 3 times in 5 years) makes me think you’re using FCP in a way that it was completely not designed for. Not that it shouldn’t be designed for the way you’re thiking, though. I’m just saying apparently it was so far from their thoughts that they never even considered it. Send them an email.
