Stop pointer from migrating to upper-right corner?
Hi all,
I’m setting up a museum gallery for a 5-channel video installation, with each of the 5 videos running off a separate Macbook Mini. (Brand new as of 2015; running Yosemite.) There’s no easy access to the Minis, so the plan is to let the computers run continuously throughout the 3 month show, and only turn off the monitors each night. (We might periodically turn the computers off to let them rest, but in general they’ll be running for long uninterrupted stretches.)
Everything runs smoothly, except that when we turn the monitors on in the morning, the pointer has migrated to the upper right corner of the screen, which takes the video out of full screen mode by revealing the menu bar. Is there any way to stop the pointer from migrating? It’s an uncommon problem, so I haven’t been able to find anything about it in any of the forums. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

There is no such Mac as the “Macbook Mini”. There is a “Mac Mini” and a “MacBook”. Which is it? Because the MacBook has an internal display and treats external displays differently than the Mac Mini which has no internal display.

Of course there is. You can get the Apple Wireless Keyboard and pair it will all 5 Macs and then use the key sequence Shift+Control+Eject to put them in sleep mode at the end of the day. Then you don’t have to shut the displays off (I haven’t turned off my displays in several years). Then use any key on the remote keyboard to wake them all up in the morning. Keep the remote keyboard in someone’s office during the day. It just might work.

Thanks for the idea. I didn’t realize you could pair / operate a bluetooth keyboard on multiple devices simultaneously.
And it’s a Mini, not a Macbook, sorry for the confusion. (I’m a PC / Android guy by preference — Mac products slightly baffle me.)

Yea, I found out the hard way. A buddy of mine a few doors down at work took my old MacBook Pro when I got an upgrade and we formatted it and reinstalled OS X and everything. Then the next day, he comes to me and says, I think someone has hacked into my Mac! I said what’s going on? He said the mouse is randomly moving and clicking on things without me doing anything… I thought for a second, went down to his office with my bluetooth mouse and moved it around. Sure enough, it was still paired to my old MacBook Pro as well as my new MacBook Pro. We both laughed and he was relieved that there wasn’t a “ghost in the machine”. lol ;-D
You may have to pair them with the other Mac’s turned off so that they only see the one keyboard and one Mac but when you turn them all back on, you should have them all listening to the same keyboard. I’ve only tried this (by accident) with a mouse but all bluetooth input devices should behave the same (ie., they transmit and the Mac (or multiple Macs) listens).
